A lift corrects sagging; an implant adds volume. If the bust has sagged but kept its volume, a lift alone is usually enough. If volume was also lost, especially in the upper breast, combining it with implants is considered. A study of 149 patients by Mexico City surgeons found the highest satisfaction with a lift alone (75 of 75), versus 16 of 26 with lift and augmentation and 17 of 48 with implant exchange. Combining techniques can work very well, but it is less predictable and needs careful indication.

Two different problems: sagging and volume
Before choosing, separate two questions: is the bust sagging? and does it lack volume? Sagging is measured with the Regnault classification by nipple position; volume is judged by shape, especially in the upper breast. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons explains that a lift can be combined with augmentation or reduction according to each patient’s needs.
Comparing the options
| Aspect | Lift alone | Lift with implants |
|---|---|---|
| What it corrects | Sagging and shape | Sagging, shape and volume |
| For whom | Sagging with enough volume | Sagging with volume loss |
| High satisfaction in the Mexican study | 75 of 75 (100%) | 16 of 26 (62%) |
| Predictability | Higher | Lower; needs careful planning |
| Long-term follow-up | Routine checks | Plus implant monitoring |
Data from Cirugía Plástica, 2022, with 149 patients. The implant-exchange group had 17 of 48 with high satisfaction.
When a lift alone is enough
- Mild to severe sagging with volume the patient considers sufficient.
- A full bust that sagged after breastfeeding or weight loss.
- Patients who prefer not to have implants.
When combining is considered
- Sagging with volume loss in the upper breast.
- Wanting a fuller as well as a higher bust.
- Volume asymmetry between the breasts.
In the Mexican study, the complications that varied most by technique were wound opening, asymmetry and seroma. That is why combining is decided with a precise indication, not by default.
Questions for your consultation
- What is my degree of sagging according to Regnault?
- Is my current volume enough for the shape I want?
- Which technique and incisions do you recommend and why?
- What follow-up does each option need?
- How could pregnancy or weight changes affect the result?
The role of the laser
The clinic uses laser technology to support skin quality in both options. It does not replace surgery or the implant: intralesional lasers show favorable firmness results according to a 2024 review, with most studies on the face and neck.

Myth and fact
Myth: “An implant lifts a sagging bust.”
Fact: The implant adds volume; the lift is what raises it.
Myth: “More volume always gives a better result.”
Fact: In the Mexican study a lift alone had the highest satisfaction.
Myth: “A lift alone leaves the bust empty.”
Fact: It depends on prior volume; if sufficient, shape improves without an implant.
Myth: “Combining techniques does not change the risks.”
Fact: Complications varied by technique in the 149-patient study.
Lift alone or with implants?
In an assessment we measure sagging and volume to recommend the right option for you.
Book an assessmentFrequently asked questions
How do I know if I need implants?
If, besides sagging, there is volume loss that matters to you; it is assessed in consultation.
Can both be done in the same surgery?
It is possible; the surgeon decides according to the case.
Which option had better results in Mexico?
A lift alone had the highest satisfaction in the 2022 study.
Do implants need follow-up?
Yes, they require long-term checks.
Does the laser replace the implant?
No; it supports skin quality.
What if I get pregnant afterwards?
Pregnancy can change the result with either option.
